Malabar Cancer Centre – Post Graduate Institute of Oncology Sciences & Research (MCC-PGIOSR) is an academic and research organization. The academic and research functions are considered as important as clinical care. In order to discuss and provide directions to various academic and training programs involving academic staff and supporting allied health sciences professionals, technicians, dietician etc, the Academic Council (AC) is constituted. the Chairman by default is director of the institution. Member secretary is selected by the Director every three years. 

The academic council includes all the academic staff and it has a standing committee for closer scrutiny of proposals and observations. 

The staff groups that come under the purview of AC:

  1. All academic staff and students
  2. Allied health professionals/ paramedical staff
  3. Nursing staff

 

Functions of academic council:

  1. To decide on courses, training program and conferences, continuing education program to be conducted by MCC-PGIOSR either alone or in association with other organizations, academic institutions and universities
  2. To decide on the permission to academic staff and other professionals or staff to attend training/courses/conferences/Continuing education programmes
  3. To decide on permission to attend /deliver lectures/classes in another institution/ organization/public program related to oncology
  4. To recommend reimbursement and or duty  leave to staff for attending the aforementioned program
  5. To formally accept the minutes of Academic Monitoring Committee minutes and to implement those relevant to academics in MCC-PGIOSR.
  6. Recommendation to Administration on matters related to academics.
  7. To decide on permission to any staff for doing a course which requires long leave
  8. To decide on collaboration with regards to academic and research endeavours.
  9. In short to decide and recommend to administration on all matters related to academics, training and research
  10. To make policies and rules and regulations on academic and research related activities
  11. To take initiatives on formation of various committees related to academic and research
  12. To constitute Academic Council Standing Committee and other committees needed for various purposes of AC

 

Academic Council Standing Committee (ACSC)
This committee was initially called as Academic Council Sub-Committee. Now it is renamed as Academic council standing committee. The ACSC is constituted with senior HODs of academic departments. Administration issues office proceedings as per the recommendation of the academic council.

The Chairman of the committee is nominated by Chairman of AC.

 

Terms of Reference of the committee:

  1. AC decides the terms of reference of the committee
  2. Scrutiny of academic staff applications for recruitment
  3. Matters referred by Director/Chairman of AC for evaluation and recommendation
