Department of Community Health Nursing (CHN)

Head of the Department

The community health nursing department aims in training students to work in partnership with their local communities, work to prevent illness and promote health by identifying barriers to healthy lifestyles and general wellness. The students are shaped to be the interpretative bridge between the acute sector and community services. Our department boasts a highly skilled faculty team, and our well-equipped lab gives students valuable opportunities to practice and refine their skills in a simulated setting.

The course is designed for students to practice community health nursing for the individual, family and groups at both urban and rural settings by using concepts and principles of health and community health nursing.

    Identify the health needs and problems of the people.
    Appreciate the role of nurse in rural community setting.
    Develop skills in planning, implementation of community programs.
    Provide comprehensive family health care by using the nursing process approach.

CLASS/ TRAINING PROGRAMME: 


•    For developing practical skills and community participation, students participate in various health programs in the community and health centres in the respective areas of field visit.
•    Conducting health camps in accordance with community health nursing practical.
•    To meet the required practical hours, students were sent to the Community Health Centre, Panoor and Primary health center, Panniyanoor&Kodiyeri, and also the Urban Community Health Centre, Kolassery.
•    Students had one week of integrated health training at RUHSA, CMC Vellore. Under the guidance of experts, they had very enriching exposure to rural community health.
