The Division of Biochemistry (MCC-PGIOSR clinical lab) at Malabar cancer Centre is committed to providing accurate and reproducible results on clinical material within the shortest possible time. It is a well-equipped, computerized, fully air conditioned laboratory providing round the clock services. The clinical lab has the facility to do all the biochemical as well as hematological assays required in the hospital. It is connected to Hospital Information System for electronic reporting of results within the turnaround time. The quality systems are compliant with the ISO 15189 standard guidelines.

There is Vitros fully automated dry chemistry analyzers (Vitros 250 for Biochemistry analysis. Vitros 5600 for both Biochemistry and immunoassays), an Access 2 analyser (Beckman Coulter) for tumor marker analysis. For hematological tests we have two Mindray BC-6200 CBC analyzers in the lab. Electrophoresis and immunofixation tests are performed in the Helena SAS3 SAS4 fully automated system. Fully automated STAGO analyzer for coagulation assays and ABG analyser are available. The osmolality analyser for osmolality tests and MiniVIDAS for immunoassays are installed.

One Month training/observership Program are conducted for undergraduate and post graduate students of various colleges. M. Sc. Student’s projects are carried out in our division under the supervision of Dr. Sindhu ER.

Various clinical samples from outside hospitals are also tested and reported.

Current and future visions:

We are embarking on a transformative journey that encompasses both enhanced diagnostics and advanced education. We are committed to elevating our diagnostic capabilities by broadening the scope of tests offered. With an emphasis on cutting-edge technologies and methodologies, our lab will provide an extensive array of test parameters, focusing particularly on cancer-related biomarkers. By incorporating state-of-the-art equipment and collaborating with renowned researchers, we aspire to become a hub for ground-breaking discoveries and advancements in cancer diagnostics. Our strategic plan revolves around introducing postgraduate courses in biochemistry, aimed at nurturing the next generation of researchers and specialists in the field. This expansion will not only contribute to the scientific community but also foster a culture of innovation within our institution.
