The Division was established in 2014, and in the following year, in 2015, the initial molecular diagnostics were initiated. In 2017, the division introduced an academic program that provided a dissertation facility for Postgraduate students, and since then, successfully completed more than 25 student projects. In 2020, the division took further steps by initiating a Molecular Pathology Fellowship program, offering one seat every year. Additionally, in the same year, commenced PhD program, and currently, three students are actively pursuing their PhD studies. Looking ahead, the division plans to introduce a degree course in medical biotechnology as part of their future initiatives. The main areas of focus for the Division of Genetics and Cytogenetic and the Division of Molecular Oncology are: molecular diagnosis for personalized therapy and research aimed at understanding the molecular and genetic mechanisms underlying tumorigenesis, metastasis, and drug resistance in different types of cancers.

Division  also focuses on the HR development by providing PhD program in life science, short-term training for BSc, MSc, life Science and B Sc MLT students and dissertation works for MSc/MD/MDS students
