As the hospital is stepping the ladder of progress, the nursing department has also achieved several milestones in the year 2012-2013.   At present we have separate wards for male and female patients. Each section of the patients are kept separately such as  preoperative patients, post operative patients , Radiotherapy, chemotherapy, palliative care patients, ICU care patients and medical oncology patients.  In each section we have experienced staffs, to give extreme care, frequent fumigations and regular cleaning in the wards. Good Nutrition recommended by the dietician is given to the patients; provision for liquid diet to the patients with Ryle’s tube is taken care of. Nursing services is rendered to Brach therapy, CT, MRI, Scanning, endoscopy. Our Nursing Staffs are efficient and always alert to give nursing care to the patients whenever needed and wherever the patients are.

The nursing staffs have attended various training programmes conducted in other reputed hospitals to update their knowledge on the current status. We are conducting regular CNE programmes, in service education, workshops, health educations to the patients and bystanders. We are attending early detection camps conducted by the community oncology departments &   providing Home care services twice a week through the Department of pain & palliative Medicine. Drug Bank provides free medicines to the poor patients admitted in wards. Medicines are collected from Doctors in private hospitals &various organizations to the Drug Bank. Various formats for requisition forms   have been prepared. We assure good quality of care to all patients. Awareness classes is given to the patients and by standers. Regular MSc Nursing Oncology posting and Internship in BSc Nursing  from various nursing schools of Kannur & Kasaragod districts is given.

Major activities of the division are follows:

  • The Radiotherapy unit was expanded with Brachytherapy, ICR / 1CA – CT scan with contrast with the personnel support of trained Nursing Staff.
  • In-house training program for Nurses in various aspects of oncological care and critical care are provided
  • Training provided to staff both in day care and in patient Chemotherapy
  • Training provided to staff for assisting all oncological surgical procedures.
  • Active participation of Nursing staff in the academic activities, Early Cancer Detection Camps, Blood Donation Camps and all out reach programmes of the Centre.
  • Regularly conducting Health Education Programs for patient and their bystanders.
  • Continuing Nursing Education Programs (CNE) are conducting every 6 months for updating the recent trends in the field of nursing care.
  • Regularly conducting monthly classes as part of In service training for nursing staff.
  • Periodically sending Nursing Staff for Training Programmes conducted by various hospitals.
  • Co-ordinating Oncology Nursing course for Nurses, Nursing Assistant course etc.
  • Assisting Home Care Service of MCC twice in a week.
  • Published  â€œRoghikalkkoru Margarekha”- a Malayalam book for patients.
  • Published hand book on chemotherapy "Chemotherapy Ariyendava".

  1.  Workshop on Socio political Aspects in cancer
  2. Nurses actively participated on the palliative care day on13th October and Pink Ribbon day22 ndOctober.
  3. A training programme on Oncology nursing was given to staff nurses from various district hospitals in Kerala for 2 weeks.
